Indigenous Destinations Saskatchewan (IDSK) – Logo

Developing a logo that will be representative of the myriad of Indigenous cultures found throughout Saskatchewan was daunting but achievable. The research showed that the peoples of this region, now known as Saskatchewan, were linked through similar graphic motifs and visual communications.

The core concept of this delivery was that of balance – balance found in nature, and balance found in Indigenous teachings. The stereotypical motifs of feathers and/or medicine wheels were purposefully avoided to ensure a more unique, and therefore more memorable, direction of utilizing the arts and crafts motifs of the plains peoples.

The left side of the icon alludes to beadwork while the right side represents textile designs found in the regions of Saskatchewan. The graphics can also be interpreted as being representative of flora and fauna – the left showcasing a plant while the right side is a swooping bird.

The logo was developed to ensure usability throughout modern applications. Logo lockups included all colour variations based on the custom colour plalette and also a short-hand acronym version. This logo has enabled a strong start for what will be a unique and inspiring visual branding system.
