Associated Engineering Indigenous learning graphics

The Engagement Party once again partnered with AE to provide Indigenous focused materials to help facilitate better communications between their non-Indigenous employees and the Indigenous people living near the company’s projects.

The chosen motif was that of the “Seven Sacred Teachings” that utilize different animals found in the relevant regions to portray core beliefs of the Indigenous People. The entire graphic was to be interconnected to be used as a key image while also having the ability to be shown individually to help with the visual communications. Each animal has a story that elaborates on Indigenous beliefs and helps communicate their ways of thinking.

Also included were medicine bundle illustrations that helped with more cultural teachings. These cultural motifs were used as border elements throughout the document. A hand-drawn aesthetic was chosen for this project to promote the personal aspect of communicating directly with Indigenous People. The illustrative style was inspired by various Canadian Indigenous artists and made to be added to for future projects.
